Great post. I never really thought of it in terms of the "5th option," and in that sense you're right. Do we really have him for the mid-level?? I never knew that..

I defended mo Pete over at 247. :) And a mid-level contract isn't that big in the greater scheme of things. By definition, it's the average salary of an NBA player.

[...] entersandman wrote a fantastic post today on “The Hive Five: Game Forty-Four”Here’s ONLY a quick extractGranted, no Nene in this one, but Tyson Chandler ate Marcus Camby alive.
To be fair, you're right, Mo-Pete was in foul trouble last night. But I'd really like to see Byron Scott get him involved in the offense beyond just making Paul find him for threes. He obviously isn't the greatest off the dribble, but a few cuts here and there to the rim couldn't hurt. But the real question is, if we just need him to be a role player on offense and above average defensively, why did we sign him to such a big contract? I mean, couldn't we have found a cheaper option? I really think Julian Wright, with some work, could be way, way better on defense.

I can't get mad at Mo-Pete. I just want him to play solid defense every night and if he can hit a few shots at the other end I consider it a bonus. He did a decent job on Iverson last night, but the foul trouble knocked him off. All in all, I think he's a much better fit with this team than Desmond Mason would be.
